Group Factor Theory
Group Factor Theory
This theory is also known as group element theory.
Thurston emphasized the concept of the group factor beyond the intermediate positions of both Spearman's and Thorndike's theories.
Thurston has mentioned Primary Mental Ability (PMA).
He told seven types of primary abilities.
- Numerical Ability - (N) (Numerical Ability) Knowledge of numerical problems
- Verbal Ability - (V) (Verbal Ability) Knowledge of words and their proper use
- Space - Space - (S) (Spatial Ability) Seeing differences in local objects
- Perceptual Perceptual - (P) (Perceptual Ability) Perceptual knowledge of objects and environment
- Memory - Ability - (M) (Memory) The power to retain learning and memory
- Inductive and Deductive Reasoning - (R) (Reasoning Ability) Rule of thumb and abstract thinking
- Word Ability (W) - Eloquence
Thurston has called intelligence the holder of seven abilities, emphasizing the principle of factorial analysis.
